Legal Week have named Charlotte Tan one of ten up-and-coming commercial and Chancery barristers. Charlotte is described by sources as a “popular junior” who is "unflappable and always manages to maintain a calm, clear head and a sense of perspective".
Charlotte, who joined 20 Essex Street in 2009, has a broad practice and is instructed in a range of general commercial matters, with particular experience in shipping and commodities, insurance, civil fraud and private international law. Her recent cases include “The Prestige” (acting against the Kingdom of Spain and the French State in relation to oil pollution claims arising from one of the worst spills in recent years (total quantum up to €4.5bn) and the BTA Bank v Ablyazov litigation (a multi-billion dollar set of claims brought by a Kazakh bank against its former owner and chairman).
In the article, author Ben Rigby also highlights the positive influence more senior members of chambers have in helping to progress junior barristers' careers, and 20 Essex receives praise for being "a happy and collegiate place to work".
