Harris Bor joins 20 Essex Street

Members of 20 Essex Street are delighted to announce the arrival of Harris Bor, who joins from Wilberforce Chambers. An established junior, Harris is a commercial advocate with a wealth of experience in all areas of commercial litigation and international arbitration, with a particular emphasis on contract, joint venture, banking and finance, and fraud-related claims.

Highlights of his career so far include acting for the successful respondents in Les Laboratoires Servier and another v Apotex Inc and others [2014] in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court which dealt with the illegality principle as it applies to patent infringement and other torts of strict liability, and in the Court of Appeal in Budejovicky Budvar Narodni Podnik v Anheuser-Busch Inc CA [2012] EWCA Civ 880 concerning the Budweiser trade mark. Recently he has also acted for Vincent Tchenguiz and Others in a substantial action.

Harris began his career as a commercial litigation solicitor, and spent time in both major UK and US law firms, before deciding to switch to the bar in 2006; to focus more on advocacy and the development of legal argument. Alongside his practice, Harris currently sits on the Combar Brexit – International Arbitration Group, which is considering ways in which Brexit might impact the area of international arbitration.

Duncan Matthews QC, co-head of Chambers, says: “We are delighted to welcome Harris to 20 Essex Street. His background in commercial litigation and arbitration will add to our existing, market-leading, capabilities, his strong reputation in these areas precedes him and we greatly look forward to his arrival.”

Chris Hancock QC, 20 Essex Street’s fellow co-head of Chambers says: “Harris’ arrival will further enhance Chambers’ expertise in principal areas as we continue our policy of seeking market-leading lateral hires, such as Harris, to further strengthen Chambers’ core areas.”

Harris adds: “20 Essex Street is a natural fit given its standing in the fields of international arbitration and complex multi-jurisdictional disputes. Chambers is going through an exciting period in its development, and I look forward to being a part of that.”

In recent months, 20 Essex Street has bolstered its ranks with high profile hires such as Timothy Hill QC and Philip Riches from Stone Chambers and Gordon Nardell QC from 39 Essex.
