20 Essex Street congratulates The Hon Charles Brower on his appointment as Judge ad hoc of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the case: Alleged violations of the 1955 Treaty of Amity, Economic Relations, and Consular Rights (Islamic Republic of Iran v United States of America).
Background
On 16 July 2018, the Islamic Republic of Iran instituted proceedings against the United States before the ICJ with regard to a dispute asserting violations of the Treaty of Amity, Economic Relations, and Consular Rights between Iran and the United States. The Court’s press release, and other public documents in the case, can be viewed here. Iran’s Request for Provisional Measures is to be heard between 27-30 August 2018.
Charles is one of only two Americans appointed by the United States as a Judge ad hoc of the ICJ. The other was the late Professor David Caron who was a past member of 20 Essex Street.
