Back to the future? The Hague-19 Convention and international disputes

Join us on Tuesday 24 June for an in-depth seminar exploring the Hague-19 Convention and its implications for the recognition and enforcement of English judgments overseas, as well as EU and other judgments here.

Ratified in June 2024, the Convention is the first multilateral scheme for the recognition and enforcement of judgments from England and Wales following the end of the Brexit transition/implementation period. As a result of its coming into force, such judgments will be more easily recognised and enforced in the EU and elsewhere, as was the case prior to Brexit and the changes it brought to the international disputes landscape.

Now, just days before the Convention comes into force in England and Wales on 1 July, this timely event will offer expert analysis on critical issues, including:

• the Convention’s scope and territorial extent
• grounds for recognition and enforcement
• treatment of judgments obtained by fraud
•  enforcement of judgments affected by arbitration agreements.

The panel will feature Sara Masters KC, Joshua Folkard and Charles Connor, who will draw on recent commentary and case law to unpack the practical challenges and opportunities presented by Hague-19. What’s going to change on 1 July, and how will it make your job easier – or more difficult – in pursuing cases across Europe and beyond?
