Applications are made using our online form which you will find at the bottom of this page. Your application will be assessed on the basis of your answers against our selection criteria. Please bear those criteria in mind, particularly when answering the questions in section 6.
After you have submitted your form, you have the option of completing Rare’s Contextual Recruitment’s form. If you do so, this information will be taken into account when assessing your application. Every year, the contextual recruitment data has a real impact on the list of those offered mini-pupillages.
We receive a large number of applications for a limited number of places, particularly for the December deadline. A longlist of candidates will be invited to a short online interview, lasting 15 minutes, with two members of chambers. You will be asked to present arguments on a topic given to you during the interview. This is designed to test your ability to analyse issues, persuade an audience and justify your conclusions. The interview is not a test of legal knowledge and you are not expected to name specific cases or discuss detailed legal issues.
Mini-pupillage interviews take place roughly two weeks after applications close. Online mini-pupillage interviews are planned to take place in mid-July for June candidates and in early January for December candidates.
When assessing applications for mini-pupillage we take into account performance at any previous interview. We consider every application in full, but candidates who have been interviewed once are not likely to be interviewed again unless there have been significant changes in their educational or professional experience.
We are also a partner set of Bridging the Bar’s mini-pupillage programme. Prospective applicants can sign up here.
