We are pleased to announce that Philip Edey KC and David Lewis KC will serve as co-heads of chambers, from today. Philip continues in the role that he has fulfilled since July 2022; David assumes the co-head responsibilities previously held by Charles Kimmins KC.
Philip Edey KC and David Lewis KC are outstanding commercial barristers with significant UK and international experience. David is a specialist advocate with a broad litigation and international arbitration practice encompassing energy, natural resources, shipping, commodities and civil fraud matters, and with considerable experience of injunctive relief, particularly freezing and anti-suit injunctions. He is called or registered in the British Virgin Islands, the Singapore International Commercial Court and the Dubai International Finance Courts and appears regularly in arbitration hearings overseas. Philip is a leading commercial barrister (Band 1 for Commercial Dispute Resolution in Chambers UK Bar 2026), with a wide-ranging practice with a particular focus on civil fraud, banking and finance, insurance, international arbitration, and the complex jurisdictional and conflict of laws issues that such claims frequently involve.
Philip was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1994, and took silk in 2009; David was called in 1999, and took silk in 2014. In addition to their work as counsel, both are arbitrators, and have sat on tribunals under different rules around the globe.
Philip and David comment:
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to work together as co-heads of Twenty Essex. Chambers continues to enjoy growth and a strong reputation we are intent on sustaining, in collaboration with our fellow tenants and brilliant employee team, whilst supporting the reforms large and small that will ensure Twenty Essex remains a leading commercial set for the years ahead.”
“We would also like to pay tribute to Charlie’s immense contribution over the past four years, and thank him for the time and commitment he has given to leading chambers through a period of considerable change, whilst maintaining his unimpeachable standards and typical good humour in the conduct of his day job.”
Charles continues to practice as a senior commercial silk at Twenty Essex.
