Duncan Matthews KC features in The Lawyer‘s ‘Top 10 appeals’ for 2024.
Privinvest Shipbuilding SAL (Holding) and others v Filipe Nyusi is a very high-profile appeal. Privinvest’s appeal concerns the question of whether President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique is entitled to assert sovereign immunity to challenge the Court’s jurisdiction, which the Commercial Court believed he was. The Court of Appeal will also consider an appeal on whether President Nyusi was validly served with proceedings in 2021 and so was out of time to contest jurisdiction in 2023.
Duncan acts for the appellant/applicant Privinvest Shipbuilding SAL, instructed by Tom Snelling at Signature Litigation.
